Cabbage Rolls

This is the traditional Polish recipe handed down from my Grandma Olszewski.

Ingredients –

– 1 large cabbage
– 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
– 4-6 cups cooked rice
– 1 onion, chopped fine
– 1 egg
– salt and pepper

Steam the cabbage. Remove the outer leaves as they become tender. In large bowl mix ground beef, rice, onion, egg and salt and pepper.

Please spoonful of meat mixture on cabbage-leaf and roll Place in 9 x 13pan. You may make more than one layer. Add 2 T. of water, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. You may also do this in a pan on top of the stove. My neighbor Rose said her mom used to put bacon between the layers of cabbage rolls.
